National Day of Prayer: Sharing God's Word today.
ON THIS DAY, STOP AND PRAY
“…if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Inspirational stories of the power of prayer fill the pages of the Bible. Testimonies from Jonah, Daniel, Job, David, the Apostles, and so many more demonstrate the rich tradition of prayer and its role in our relationship with Jesus, the Christ.
Pray For One and All
You have heard of the power of prayer. You know that God listens to your words, touches your heart and mind, and gives you strength and confidence. You know that God can transform individual lives with one plea for help.
So what could be accomplished if a country of approximately 325 million people joined together in unity on the same day, praying to the one Almighty, Sovereign God for peace and harmony?
Past and Present
On May 4, 2017, the United States recognizes a National Day of Prayer, a tradition dating back to the 18th century, when the U.S. forefathers supported a day of “fasting, humiliation and prayer” in the spring, as well as a day of thanksgiving and praise in the fall.
Around the world, Christians are persecuted for their faith and for spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Throughout time, the battlefield has shifted and the issues have changed, but the need to fight has been and will forever be constant. As spiritual warriors, we must arm ourselves with the most powerful weapon that exists: prayer.
Share a Prayer
On this Thursday, the National Day of Prayer, set aside time to pray. Remove distractions, focus your mind and attention on God, let the Holy Spirit guide you, and pray for your life and those of others. Pray for our nation. Pray for our world. Pray for our military and for our peacekeepers. Pray for our teachers and our rescue workers. Pray that good overturns evil, that right usurps wrong, that unity replaces division, and that the people of the earth turn to the one person with the power to forgive sins, save lives, and offer an eternity of peace and love.
In addition, pray that God places someone in your path on this very day who desperately needs to hear the Word of God. Pray that He gives you the words to speak to offer a personal testimony of the power of God’s grace.Equip yourself with the Gospel of John and start sharing God's Word today. And, most importantly, pray with that person. Teach the power of prayer through personal demonstration, as Jesus Christ taught his disciples. And pray that God touches that person’s heart with the peace and assurance of grace and love that only He can provide.
