Lifting Up Our Country during the National Day of Prayer
“The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” – James 5:16
Prayer is one of the greatest services we can do for our country. And, at this moment, we’re blessed to live in a place where we can come together in unity for national prayer.
During this National Day of Prayer – and every day, for that matter – we should pray for our leaders, servicemen, and citizens around us.
Here are a few prayer-filled ideas to make this a meaningful time of seeking the Lord as a nation. Remember that we are still one nation under God!
Pray for our Leaders
Lift up our nation and its government leaders today. Ask God to grant them wisdom and to stir in their hearts to honor Him in the decisions they make.
Then, as new positions open up, pray for God to place individuals with character in those spots, people who are ready and willing to take appropriate action. Then, as new positions open up, pray for God to place men of character in those spots, men who are ready and willing to take appropriate action.
Pray for Servicemen
Another important group to pray for is our military. These men and women sacrifice themselves every day to serve and protect us.
Ask God to guard these service men and women, both leaders and soldiers, who are faithfully defending our freedom. Also, remember our brave law enforcement and first responders who are daily committed to keeping our country safe.
Pray for Citizens
Last but not least, pray for rest of the country as a whole. These are the citizens and voters who have the opportunity to influence leaders.
Pray that they will influence change for the better, thinking of the good of our country. Entreat that they will vote for new leaders and do their duty thoughtfully.
Then, ask the Lord to help those who are hopeless and hurting. Urge God to show the homeless, addicted, and incarcerated a better way – and to give them a radical life change found in Jesus Christ!
One of the best ways to keep our nation pointing to God is through prayer. On our knees, we can be those righteous people in James who are calling on God Almighty for our country.
Once we’ve covered our country in fervent prayer, then it’s time to take action! Share the Gospel at celebrations like Memorial Day and Independence Day that are right around the corner.
Even better, share it wherever you go, prayerfully asking God to guide you in evangelism every day! Through the Gospel, you can influence change in our country one person at a time.
