The Faces of Evangelism

By Guest-Blogger, Lori Othous

Often when we think of evangelism, our minds conjure images of Billy Graham speaking to thousands in huge venues. And no doubt, Billy Graham is a stellar example of evangelism in action. But winning the lost is a mandate given by God to all Christians, not just those who feel called into ministry. 2 Peter 3:9 tells us that the Lord is “…not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” But even full-time evangelists can’t reach everyone. And that’s where we come in.

Consider Silas W. from Kannapolis, NC:

“My name is Silas and I’m 13. I try to live by the verse Acts 1:8. I call it my life verse. Ever since I got saved I have tried to live it out, go unto all the world and preach the Gospel. In my neighborhood there are a lot of lost kids. I love to hang out with these kids…I save money and buy Bibles and Christian music cds for them…The Gospel of John books I get on the PTL website will help me do my life verse Acts 1:8.”

This is a young man who gets it. He is not a pastor, not on television, not a famous author or radio personality. But he is an evangelist. Right where he is, with the people God has placed in his life. People that you and I can’t reach. People that well-known or successful teachers and preachers may not be able to reach. But Silas can. And he’s doing it, every day, with help from the Pocket Testament League.

You have that same opportunity. Whatever you do, wherever you are, you have contact with someone. Probably lots of someones. And no one else can reach them like you. No one else has your unique sphere of influence. Pocket Testament League is an invaluable evangelism resource to reach those within that sphere and share the love of Christ in an easy, practical way. By giving the Gospel of John to those you come in contact with, you’re literally giving life to those who will receive it. And whatever the response, God has promised us in Isaiah 55:11 that “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void…”

Each of us has a missionfield. It may be the office break room, the classroom or the living room. Maybe it’s a baseball field, a grocery store or a bowling alley. Or even a social network. God has placed us in a position to directly minister to those around us, to bring them hope, not only for eternal life, but for this life as well. God has given us the precious gift of salvation through His son, Jesus, and Pocket Testament League has given us an effective way to share that gift with others through the Gospel of John pocket testaments.

As Christians, we know God’s plan of salvation. We know this because someone shared the Truth with us. But there are many all around us who don’t know. Who haven’t heard. And as Romans 10:14-15 asks, “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

So, whether you are 13, 43 or 103…as a Christian, yours is the face of evangelism. It may be the only one some people ever see. Let’s do all that we can, while we can, to be like Silas W. and be His witnesses “to the ends of the Earth.”
