Great Bible Verses for Anger

Anger is a prevalent emotion in our society today.  We have all felt anger at some point in our lives, but it’s what we do with it and about it that makes all the difference.

Anger is a symptom of a larger problem that lies deeper within our hearts.  Left unattended, anger has serious consequences.  It can reside in us and build up over time.  If we do not deal with the anger and attempt to find its root cause, eventually it will be expressed in a way that we may not be proud of.  The key to addressing – and ridding ourselves of - the anger is to find out what is causing it and stop it at its core.

This, my friends, is easier said than done and will take some work over time.  As Christians, we have God's word to show us His perspective on anger, and what He would have us to do about it. Consider the following inspirational Bible verses on this topic:

Psalm 37:8 Cease from anger and forsake wrath; do not fret; it leads only to evildoing.

Psalm 145:8 The Lord is gracious and merciful; Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.

Proverbs 14:17 A quick-tempered man acts foolishly, and a man of evil devices is hated.

Proverbs 14:29 He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who is quick-tempered exalts folly.

Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Proverbs 19:11 A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression.

Ecclesiastes 7:9 Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, for anger resides in the bosom of fools.

Ephesians 4:26 Be angry and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger.

Colossians 3:8 But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.

The good news is that God understands how you feel; He understands anger.  He does not want you held prisoner by it, but desires that you are free from its hold on your life.  Talk to Him about it and ask Him to show you what is making you feel that way.  Cling to His promises that there is blessing in obedience; if you will put away your anger, you will begin to see the areas God wants to heal in your life.  Joy and peace await you as you seek Him!
